Valencia Nears Agreement with Javier Aguirre as Head Coach

Valencia are closing the net around Javier Aguirre. Quietly, without fanfare, sporting director Braulio Vázquez has spent the past few days locked in discreet talks with the Mexican coach’s camp following the departure of Carlos Corberán.

According to MARCA, the key moment came on Friday. Both sides held what is being described as a decisive conversation aimed at tying up the final details of an agreement, with a shared will to reach common ground. Around the league, agents and circles close to other coaches sounded out by Vázquez have already accepted what now feels inevitable: Aguirre is out in front to take charge of the Blanquinegros.

The profile Valencia want

Inside the club, the 67-year-old is seen as exactly the type of figure needed to jolt this squad back to life. Directors point to his vast experience, his hard-edged, authoritative personality, and a deep, hard-earned knowledge of Spanish football.

If he signs, Valencia would become the seventh La Liga team of his career. His CV in Spain is long and varied: Osasuna, Atlético Madrid, Real Zaragoza, Espanyol, Leganés and Mallorca have all passed through his hands. He is currently unattached after bringing his spell in charge of Mexico to an end following the 2026 World Cup.
