Tyrell Malacia Joins FC Cincinnati After Manchester United Exit

Tyrell Malacia swaps Old Trafford for Ohio as FC Cincinnati land the former Manchester United left-back on a free transfer.

The 27-year-old Netherlands international has signed a deal running until next June, with an option that could keep him in MLS through the 2027-28 season. He arrives after his contract with United expired at the end of last season.

Malacia joined the 20-time English champions from Feyenoord in 2022 and went on to make 50 appearances in a spell disrupted by injuries. When fit, he offered United energy on the flank and aggression in the tackle, but never fully built the sustained run that was expected after his move from the Eredivisie.

Cincinnati believe they are picking up a defender with plenty still to give.

"We are excited to add a player of Tyrell's experience," said general manager Chris Albright. "He's played at the highest levels of the game and understands the demands of competing in those environments.

"His quality on the ball, defensive instincts, and team-first mentality is a welcome addition to the group and we're happy to have him in Cincinnati."

For a club with growing ambitions in MLS, this is a move that carries clear intent: a seasoned European defender, still in his prime years, now tasked with anchoring the left side in a new league and a new continent.
