Torres Scores as PSG Claim First Ligue 1 Victory

Ferran Torres found the net to help Paris Saint-Germain break their Ligue 1 drought with a 1-0 victory at Brest on Sunday. The reigning champions, who had only managed two points from their first three league matches, finally got their domestic campaign moving.

Under Luis Enrique, PSG began their chase for a third straight Champions League crown with an impressive 6-1 win against Slovan Bratislava midweek. Following that, Torres, who joined from Barcelona over the summer and scored the winning goal for Spain in the World Cup final, delivered again with a brilliant early strike at Stade Francis-Le Ble.

Torres now boasts six goals in five appearances across all competitions for PSG.

"What matters to me is always helping the team, regardless of how much playing time the coach decides to give me, and doing my part. Whether that's through goals, assists, or my work on the pitch," said the 26-year-old.

This victory lifted PSG to eighth place, matching Brest's record, who had remained unbeaten before this match. Ahead of kickoff, Brest honored their former coach Eric Roy, who passed away in June due to pancreatic cancer.

Mbappe Redeems Himself for Lille

Earlier, Ethan Mbappe made amends for his midweek Champions League red card by scoring a stoppage-time goal to secure a 2-0 win over Troyes, which propelled Lille to the top of Ligue 1.

The younger brother of French star Kylian Mbappe was sent off during Lille’s 3-2 loss to Real Betis for elbowing an opponent. He turned things around by coming off the bench against Troyes to seal the victory after Tiago Santos had put the home team ahead in the first half.

Mbappe’s goal was his first since December. He marked it quietly, apologizing to fans for his earlier red card, but the strike pushed Lille above Monaco and Rennes on goal difference.

"He came to his senses after his red card and showed maturity beyond his years; he took responsibility for his actions," said Lille coach Davide Ancelotti. "This week has been very important for him personally, helping him to grow as a player and as a person. As for his qualities, he certainly has them – he showed that again today."

Under Ancelotti, son of Brazil’s national coach Carlo Ancelotti, Lille have earned 10 points from 12 so far.

Lens Struggles Domestically

Last season’s surprise title challengers, Lens, are facing difficulties in Ligue 1 despite their Champions League success. After beating Slavia Prague 3-2 and winning the French Champions Trophy against PSG last month, they have only four points from four league games. Their 2-2 draw at newly promoted Le Mans on Sunday leaves them in tenth place.
