Flavio Cobolli Shares Insights on Practice Session with Jannik Sinner Ahead of His Return

Jannik Sinner Poised for Return at China Open

The tennis world is buzzing as Jannik Sinner prepares to make his much-anticipated return at the upcoming China Open in Beijing. The Italian star, who has been sidelined by a knee injury since his victory over Alexander Zverev in the 2026 Wimbledon final, is set to defend his title next week.

Ranking Battle Intensifies

Though Sinner still holds the top spot in the ATP rankings, his lead is under pressure from Zverev. After winning the US Open, Zverev trails by less than 2,000 points and could overtake Sinner by season's end depending on upcoming performances.

Training Together in Monte Carlo

Before the China Open, Sinner trained in Monte Carlo, sharing courts with fellow Italian Flavio Cobolli. Cobolli, the Roland Garros runner-up, is currently in London to compete for Team Europe at the Laver Cup. In an interview with Super Tennis TV, Cobolli opened up about practicing with Sinner.

"We joked around a lot," said the 24-year-old, who is enjoying his best season yet in 2026. "It was really nice to see him back on court. Whenever I get the chance, I try to make the most out of our practice time together. He teaches me a lot; I always look forward to training with him."

Laver Cup Participation

This marks Cobolli's third consecutive appearance at the Laver Cup, having debuted in 2024 when Team Europe stopped Team World from a three-peat. He won't play on the first day, which features a doubles match between Carlos Alcaraz and Jakub Mensik against Alexander Bublik and Taylor Fritz.

Team Europe is captained by Yannick Noah with Tim Henman as vice-captain, while Andre Agassi and Pat Rafter hold those roles for Team World.
