Tomas Aranda: Chelsea, Arsenal, and Liverpool Eye Boca Juniors Playmaker
Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool are circling around 19-year-old Boca Juniors playmaker Tomas Aranda, with the Argentine starlet emerging as one of the most in-demand youngsters ahead of the summer window.
A report from Argentine outlet El Intransigente says the teenager is attracting serious interest from across Europe and beyond, with Bayer Leverkusen, Como, Corinthians, City Football Group, Inter Milan, Parma and Sao Paulo FC all monitoring him. Any bidder knows the starting point: Aranda has a $20 million release clause in his Boca contract.
Boca’s latest jewel
Aranda is the latest talent off Boca Juniors’ production line, a playmaker whose rise has come fast and decisively. Born in Ciudadela, he came through the Boca academy and forced his way into the first-team squad at the iconic Alberto J. Armando Stadium.
This season has been his breakout. The midfielder has already passed 2,000 minutes for the senior side, featuring in 32 games and contributing two goals and three assists. Those numbers only tell part of the story; his influence between the lines and comfort on the ball have been enough to earn him a debut for La Albiceleste at international level.
That combination of club impact and early national-team recognition has put him firmly on the radar of Europe’s elite, with Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool all listed among the clubs pushing for his signature.
Chelsea’s South American strategy
Chelsea’s interest fits a clear pattern. The London club have aggressively targeted South American prospects in recent windows, becoming one of the most active European sides in that market. Some signings have been lost in the churn of their vast squad, but others have begun to justify the approach, with Estevao a standout example.
The belief around Aranda is that his technical profile and creativity could thrive in a similar developmental pathway, potentially under the guidance of Xabi Alonso, whose name has been strongly linked with the club. For Chelsea, $20 million for a 19-year-old with first-team and international experience sits firmly in their current recruitment sweet spot.
Arsenal eye long-term creativity
At Arsenal, the logic is different but just as clear. The Gunners are looking for another creative option in the final third. Martin Odegaard has struggled for continuity over the past two seasons due to fitness issues, while Eberechi Eze’s debut campaign has not delivered the consistent spark Mikel Arteta’s side expected.
Missing out on Morgan Rogers has only sharpened the need. Aranda, capable of operating as a central creator and drifting into advanced pockets, offers a long-term solution and a fresh tactical wrinkle for an attack that can sometimes look over-reliant on Odegaard’s rhythm.
Liverpool’s interest comes with questions
Liverpool’s reported admiration for Aranda is more complicated. Under Andoni Iraola, the squad already contains established playmakers, and the balance of the team does not obviously cry out for another central creator.
Aranda can operate from the left, which gives him a route into a wide role, but Liverpool’s recruitment priorities lean more towards a specialist winger. With Florian Wirtz and Dominik Szoboszlai providing depth and guile in advanced areas, any move for the Boca youngster would raise questions about fit rather than talent.
What is not in doubt is the scale of the chase. A $20 million clause, a breakout season in Buenos Aires and a first cap for La Albiceleste have combined to put Tomas Aranda on a collision course with Europe’s elite. The only real unknown now is whose shirt he pulls on when the window closes.
