Toby Collyer Joins West Brom from Manchester United

Toby Collyer is set to swap Old Trafford for the Hawthorns, with Manchester United agreeing a deal that could eventually be worth £7.6m for the young midfielder’s permanent move to West Brom.

United will receive an initial £3m for the 22-year-old, but the fee is heavily incentivised with add-ons and includes a sizeable 40% sell-on clause, underlining how highly the Premier League club still rate his long-term potential.

This is not a leap into the unknown for Collyer. He spent the first half of last season on loan with West Brom, where, despite injury limiting his game time, he did enough to convince head coach James Morrison that he was worth bringing back for good. Morrison’s belief has proved decisive.

Collyer’s future had been the subject of a straight Championship tug-of-war between West Brom and Hull City. He also had a spell at Hull during the 2025/26 campaign, and for a while the momentum appeared to be swinging towards the Tigers. Early on, West Brom looked in front. Then Hull moved ahead in the race.

The Baggies boss is understood to have played a key role in persuading Collyer to return to the Hawthorns, with the promise of a bigger role in the heart of his midfield. For a player whose progress stalled through injury, the chance of consistent minutes has been a crucial part of the pitch.

Collyer’s decision, shaped by the prospect of increased playing time and a manager who clearly trusts him, now sets up a pivotal stage of his career in the Championship – and leaves West Brom betting that this is the moment he finally kicks on.
