Ex-Rangers Defender Says Rangers Are Bigger Than Tottenham as Mikey Moore’s Return Seems Unlikely

Colin Hendry, speaking to GOAL, claimed that Rangers stand as a bigger club than Tottenham Hotspur, despite the current struggles of the Scottish giants. Still, bringing back wonderkid Mikey Moore to Ibrox for a second spell looks like it won’t happen anytime soon.

Moore’s Impact at Rangers and Tottenham

Moore joined Rangers on loan just before turning 18, having already made history as the youngest player to appear for Tottenham in the Premier League at 16 years and 277 days. Known as one of north London's brightest prospects, his chances at Spurs have been limited due to their recent poor form, finishing 17th in consecutive seasons.

Rangers provided Moore with valuable first-team experience during the 2025-26 season, where he played 47 times and scored seven goals. This exposure helped showcase his talent on a bigger stage under intense scrutiny.

Return to Rangers Remains Uncertain

Speculation about Moore returning to Rangers emerged with Derek McInnes now managing the team. The Gers, having failed to win in their first three games of the 2026-27 season, could certainly use creative options. Yet, no agreement has been reached for Moore’s comeback.

"Mikey Moore would be a welcome addition," Hendry told GOAL. "At 19 years old, he's gone abroad to a bigger club – a bigger club Rangers than Tottenham. Many in England might disagree, but based on history, Rangers is a bigger club."

Hendry acknowledged Tottenham's unpredictable status, not quite securing a top-six spot recently, and questioned Moore’s future opportunities there. He suggested Rangers would be happy to bring him back if possible, but it looks doubtful.

Potential Move to Bundesliga Considered

With talk of Moore possibly moving to 1. FC Köln in Germany, Hendry agreed that gaining diverse experiences could benefit the youngster. However, he stressed that the club cannot force a player’s path, only offer options.

"It’s up to Tottenham's staff to decide who fits best in the squad," Hendry explained. "Moore might get some first-team chances, but the competition and qualities required play a big role."

He praised the Bundesliga’s atmosphere and fan support, highlighting the appeal of playing in Germany. Despite this, Hendry believes a return to Rangers is unlikely, even if it would be great for the Scottish club.

Transfer Window Deadlines and Future Moves

The Scottish transfer window stays open until September 3, slightly longer than England’s deadline. This gives McInnes time to add reinforcements or familiar faces to the squad. Tottenham are expected to finalize Moore’s destination soon, possibly before the Premier League season begins.
