Plymouth Dominates Barnsley 3-0 in League One Play-Off Clash

Plymouth surged into the Sky Bet League One play-off spots with a ruthless 3-0 dismantling of Barnsley at Home Park, climbing to sixth on a night when everything clicked early and often.

The game was barely underway when on-loan Tottenham winger Oli Irow lit the place up. Less than a minute on the clock, a simple ball out to the left from Julio Pleguezuelo turned into something spectacular. Irow drove at Tyrese Noslin, chopped inside him and unleashed a fierce right-foot strike that screamed past Rogan Ravenhill and into the top corner. One touch to set, one to finish. Statement made.

Barnsley needed composure. Instead, they got chaos.

To their credit, they nearly hit back. On 20 minutes, Noslin almost made amends, pouncing on a loose ball just inside the box as Plymouth tried to clear. He thumped his shot low and hard, only to see it flash inches wide of the post. It felt like a lifeline. It turned out to be a turning point.

Two minutes later, Argyle punished them.

From a long throw launched in by captain Wes Harding, Ravenhill came to claim but couldn’t hold. The ball spilled, the defence froze, and Ronan Curtis reacted quicker than anyone, nodding into an empty net. A soft goal from Barnsley’s point of view, a gift Plymouth had no intention of refusing.

Curtis almost had another before the break. He rose to meet a cross with a looping header that had Ravenhill beaten, only for Connor O'Riordan to race back and hook it off the line. Barnsley clung on, but the pattern was set: Argyle sharper, hungrier, and far more clinical.

Any hope of a second-half fightback disappeared five minutes after the restart.

Bim Pepple, leading the line for Argyle, took charge on the left side of the area, back to goal, O'Riordan tight to him. One swift spin, one yard of space, and he bent a composed finish into the far corner to make it 3-0. It was the kind of goal that underlines a team’s control of a contest. Barnsley were beaten, and they knew it.

From there, Plymouth managed the game with authority, the early blitz having done the damage. A first-minute rocket, a defensive lapse seized upon, and a striker’s finish after the break – three moments, three goals, and a clear message in the League One promotion race.
