Nicolo Tresoldi Postpones National Team Decision

Club Brugge forward Nicolo Tresoldi has decided to wait until after the 2027 U21 European Championship before selecting which senior national team to represent. The 22-year-old striker, currently performing well for the German U21 squad, remains torn between his birthplace, Italy, and his adopted country, Germany, where he developed as a footballer.

A Heart Split Between Two Countries

The competition for Tresoldi's international future continues. Despite strong interest from both the German Football Association (DFB) and the Italian Football Federation (FIGC), the young player intends to stay with Germany's U21 team through the 2027 tournament before making a final choice. Speaking to Sky Germany, Tresoldi revealed the difficulty of his decision, saying, "My heart is 50:50. Both countries mean a lot to me."

Discussions with Jurgen Klopp

The stakes increased when Jurgen Klopp, head coach of the German national team, personally reached out to Tresoldi. Klopp values the forward's Champions League experience and they have had in-depth talks about his future. Tresoldi praised Klopp’s understanding approach, describing their conversations as more personal than professional. He said, "We had good conversations. I explained my situation to Kloppo, and he understood it. He is a great person. It wasn’t a coach-player conversation, but like a father-son conversation. He said that the door is always open for me."

Roberto Mancini’s Efforts to Secure Tresoldi for Italy

Italy’s coach, Roberto Mancini, is also trying to persuade Tresoldi to choose Italy. Tresoldi responded honestly to Mancini, just as he did with Klopp. Born in Sardinia and spending his early years in Italy before moving to Germany at age 13, Tresoldi has strong ties to the Mediterranean country. He also has eligibility for Argentina through his mother, though his current focus remains on Europe. He emphasized, "It’s not just that only my father comes from Italy. I was also born there, I grew up there."

Commitment to Germany U21 for Now

For the time being, Tresoldi is committed to Germany's U21 project under coach Antonio Di Salvo. He looks forward to representing Germany in the upcoming European Championship qualifiers. Tresoldi is set to play in a key match against Latvia U21 this Saturday, providing a boost to the team’s qualification hopes. He stated, "I wear the Germany jersey with pride, I’m very happy to be here. I still want to play in the European Championship here. After that, we will see how things progress."
