Mohamed Salah’s Momentous Transfer to Trabzonspor

Fatih Terim has lit a fuse under Turkish football. The iconic coach has described Mohamed Salah’s transfer to Trabzonspor as one of the most significant deals in the history of the Turkish league.

On Sunday, Papara Park stages a clash loaded with history and tension. Trabzonspor host old rivals Galatasaray in the sixth round of the Trendyol Super League, a meeting that rarely leaves room for half-measures.

Speaking to Turkish outlet 61saat, the former Galatasaray and Turkey boss underlined the scale of the coup.

“We are talking about a player who has been at the highest level for years with Liverpool, and has won everything. The Europa League, the Champions League, and Club World Cups. He is a player who is indispensable,” Terim said.

“Any club in the world would wish to sign him,” he continued. “Clubs from the Emirates and Saudi Arabia are ready to pay enormous sums for him, not to mention the giants of the Spanish, Italian and English leagues. But in the end he chose Trabzonspor, and this in itself is a great achievement.”

The money of Saudi Arabia and the UAE was on the table. So were the bright lights of Spain, Italy and England. Salah walked away from all of it and headed for the Black Sea.

Terim reserved special praise for the club hierarchy, singling out president Ertuğrul Doğan.

“President Ertuğrul Doğan and his administration deserve every appreciation and congratulation. Bringing in a player of this world-class value is not an easy matter at all, as he is able to go anywhere he wants. What happened is a momentous thing and deserves praise.”

The numbers back him up. Salah has exploded into the Trendyol Super League, already establishing himself as the competition’s standout attraction: 4 goals and 1 assist in just 5 matches.

A superstar who turned his back on bigger cheques and bigger leagues now walks out at Papara Park, into a derby that could tilt the early shape of the title race.
