Mohamed Salah's Impact on Trabzon's Tourism

Mohamed Salah’s move to Trabzonspor is already changing more than just the club’s attack. It is reshaping the city’s tourism map.

Erkut Çelebi, head of the Trabzon Chamber of Commerce and Industry, outlined the early impact of the Egyptian star’s arrival, describing a surge in interest from across North Africa. What started as excitement over a free transfer has quickly turned into a wave of travel plans.

According to Çelebi, demand is pouring in not only from Egypt, where Salah is a national icon, but from several North African countries tracking his every step. For a city used to short, sharp peaks of visitor traffic, this is something different.

Speaking to local outlet 61saat, which follows developments in Trabzon closely, Çelebi explained that hotels typically fill up for just three or four months each year before business tails off sharply. Rooms are hard to find in high season, then suddenly plentiful once the rush ends.

Now the authorities sense an opening. With Salah in town, they are working to turn that brief summer boom into a year-round flow, using the global pull of one of football’s biggest names as a new anchor for the city’s tourism strategy.

Trabzonspor announced the signing of Mohamed Salah last Thursday, confirming a two-year deal on a free transfer after his contract with Liverpool expired at the end of last season. The football world saw a headline move.

Trabzon saw something else as well: a chance to turn a superstar’s signature into a lasting economic lift.
