Milan Reject Coventry's €10 Million Bid for Ruben Loftus-Cheek
Milan have shut the door on Coventry City’s attempt to reunite Ruben Loftus-Cheek with Frank Lampard, rejecting a €10 million offer for the midfielder, according to Tuttosport.
The newly promoted Premier League side had marked the 30-year-old out as a cornerstone signing for their return to the top flight, with Lampard pushing hard to work again with a player he knows inside out from their Chelsea days. Coventry moved early, testing Milan’s resolve with a concrete bid.
They got their answer quickly.
The proposal was dismissed out of hand by the Rossoneri, who have no intention of parting with the England international this summer. There was no drawn-out negotiation, no public auction. Just a firm “no” from Milan’s hierarchy, backed strongly by their new man in the dugout.
Amorim makes his stance clear
Rúben Amorim has only just arrived at San Siro, but his influence is already obvious. The Portuguese coach is understood to have played a decisive role in blocking Loftus-Cheek’s exit, making it clear he wants the midfielder at the centre of his plans for the entire 2026-27 season.
Amorim values one thing above all in Loftus-Cheek: versatility. The report highlights how the coach sees him as a key piece between the lines in his preferred system, a player who can shift roles and zones without losing impact. In a tactical setup that leans heavily on fluidity and intelligent positioning, that kind of profile is hard to replace.
So the answer to Coventry wasn’t just about money. It was about the spine of a project. Amorim views Loftus-Cheek as too important to lose, and that stance effectively shut down any talk of a summer sale before it could gather momentum.
Lampard reunion put on ice
For Lampard, the rejection ends hopes of a headline reunion. The Coventry manager had pushed for Loftus-Cheek as a statement signing, a player who could bring top-level experience, physicality, and familiarity with his ideas to a squad gearing up for the Premier League.
The pair worked closely together at Stamford Bridge, where Lampard often trusted Loftus-Cheek in advanced roles and encouraged him to break lines with and without the ball. That understanding made him an obvious target once Coventry secured promotion and began building for a far tougher campaign.
Instead, the midfielder stays in Italy, preparing for yet another season in Serie A.
Established force at San Siro
Loftus-Cheek is now heading into his fourth consecutive year in the Italian top flight. Milan signed him from Chelsea in the summer of 2023 for around €19 million, and he has since carved out a reputation as a reliable, physically imposing presence in the Rossoneri midfield.
He has blended power with tactical discipline, offering a mix of ball-carrying, pressing, and positional flexibility that has made him a trusted option through different phases of Milan’s recent evolution. That profile, once again, is exactly what Amorim wants to build around rather than cash in on.
Contract clock still ticking
Milan’s stance this summer is clear: Loftus-Cheek is not for sale. The long-term picture is less straightforward.
The Englishman has under a year left on his current deal at San Siro. If no agreement is reached on an extension, Milan run the real risk of losing a €19m investment for nothing at the end of next season.
That leaves the club’s executives with a looming decision. Do they open renewal talks soon to protect his value and cement him as a pillar of Amorim’s project, or gamble on another season of service knowing he could walk away for free next summer?
