Manchester United Signs Isaac Konde from Liverpool Academy

Manchester United have struck a deal to sign 16-year-old Liverpool midfielder Isaac Konde, stepping directly into rival territory as they continue to overhaul their academy ranks.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano reports that United have reached an agreement with Liverpool for the youngster, with the formalities completed in the last 24 hours. Konde, a regular for Liverpool’s Under-18s this season, has made six appearances in the Under-18 Premier League, registering one assist.

It is a bold move. A teenager crossing the divide from Liverpool to United is never a quiet story, even at academy level, and it underlines how aggressively United are trying to refresh their youth setup.

United rebuild below the first team

Konde’s arrival follows a flurry of movement in and out of Carrington in recent weeks, as United reshape the pathway beneath the senior squad.

Premier League champions Arsenal swooped earlier in the summer to take Habeeb Ogunneye and James Scanlon from United on permanent deals, two exits that trimmed the club’s defensive and attacking options at youth level. Those departures forced United to react, and they have done so by targeting high-upside teenagers from elsewhere.

The changes did not stop there. Young striker Louie Bradbury also departed, joining Stoke City on a permanent move. The 17-year-old has signed a two-year contract with the Championship side, with Stoke holding an option to extend that by a further year through the 2028/29 campaign.

United marked his exit with a detailed statement, underlining how highly they rated him and how long they had invested in his development.

“Academy forward Louie Bradbury has agreed a move to Championship side Stoke City, subject to registration.

“The Shrewsbury-born striker signed for United at Under-14s level and earned his scholarship with the club in 2025.

“He made five appearances for the Under-18s during the 2024/25 season, debuting for Adam Lawrence’s side as a late substitute in the FA Youth Cup fourth-round.

“Last season he scored eight Under-18 Premier League goals and also registered at Premier League 2 level.

“Everyone at Manchester United wishes Louie all the best with his next stage of his career.”

The message was clear: exits are part of the process, but they come with a sense of care and continuity.

A busy market for teenagers

United’s academy staff have not simply accepted losing talent to rivals. They have gone hunting.

Alongside the move for Konde, United pushed to bring in Leicester City prospect Louis Page. That pursuit went to the wire but ended in frustration, with the highly rated teenager staying put at the League One club after the two sides failed to reach an agreement before the deadline.

So United turn to what they have managed to secure. Konde now becomes the latest piece in a wider rebuild, a young midfielder plucked from a rival system and dropped into an academy that has seen significant churn.
