Manchester United to Reject Galatasaray’s Bruno Fernandes Bid
Manchester United have no intention of letting their captain walk out the door just as the season starts – no matter how bold the offer.
Galatasaray have stepped up their long‑standing admiration of Bruno Fernandes with what has been described as an “audacious approach”, but United are preparing to shut it down quickly, according to The Independent.
The timing is striking. The Premier League kicks off on Friday, the transfer window is edging towards its final weeks, and Fernandes remains central to Michael Carrick’s plans. United’s message is blunt: he is not for sale.
Release clause on the table – but only for outsiders
Fernandes, 31, is heading into the final 12 months of the three‑year contract he signed in 2024. United hold an option to extend it by another season, so there is no immediate panic at Old Trafford, even with a key detail lurking in the paperwork.
His deal includes a £56 million release clause that can be activated by clubs outside England. That mechanism keeps the door slightly ajar for European suitors, but United’s stance is clear. Clause or no clause, they are planning the new campaign with their captain at the heart of it.
This is not the first time United have had to fend off interest. Speculation over Fernandes’ future has become a recurring theme, and the club have repeatedly dug in to keep him.
Galatasaray’s big swing
Back in May, The Mirror described Fernandes as a “dream target” for Galatasaray. The Istanbul giants have not been shy in recent windows, luring high‑profile names such as Victor Osimhen and Leroy Sane as they chase domestic dominance and European relevance.
Now they are said to be preparing a substantial financial package to tempt Fernandes, testing United’s resolve and their own pulling power. The answer, though, is expected to be swift and uncompromising.
United will reject the proposal. The captain stays.
Carrick’s key man for league and Europe
The context matters. United finished third in the Premier League last season, their best finish since 2022/23, and Carrick is determined to build on that upward curve. The 2026/27 campaign also brings a long‑awaited return to the Champions League, their first appearance since 2024.
In that landscape, losing the team’s creative heartbeat is not on the agenda. Fernandes is viewed as a central figure for both the league campaign and the European push, a player Carrick expects to lean on heavily in the coming months.
With United’s season starting away at Hull City on Saturday, August 22 (12:30pm), the club are in no mood to rip out their midfield leader at the eleventh hour.
Contract talks can wait – commitment can’t
For now, there are no active plans to offer Fernandes a new contract before the season begins. That position could evolve once the campaign is underway, especially if his influence remains as strong as ever.
Fernandes himself has already hinted that his future lies at Old Trafford, at least beyond this summer.
“Playing for Manchester United is always a special moment for everyone. At the same time, it brings a lot of responsibility with it,” he said last month. “But I don’t think anyone comes to Manchester United thinking that we won’t have the responsibility to win again, to be at the top of the Premier League, at the top of European football, because the club’s history brings that responsibility.
“Regardless of the most recent years, they were not at the level that the club was used to. I think everyone always believes that we can be the ones who are going to do this, the ones who are going to turn the page, the ones who are going to make it possible for United to fight on all fronts. And I think that has to be special for us players, to realise that we can be the main, let’s say, protagonists of this change of history for United to win again.”
The words echo the club’s own thinking. Galatasaray may be ready to test the waters with money and ambition, but United see something bigger: a captain determined to sit at the centre of a rebuild, not the middle of a transfer saga.
