Liverpool's Transfer Focus Shifts to Minteh Amid PSG Pursuits

Liverpool’s winger hunt is turning into one of the window’s most intriguing subplots – and it is starting to test patience in Paris.

With Mohamed Salah gone to Trabzonspor and the clock ticking towards the summer deadline, Liverpool have shifted their focus almost entirely to wide forwards. Victor Munoz has already arrived from Osasuna. Now the club are pushing hard for Yankuba Minteh and weighing up how that affects their long-running chase of Ibrahim Mbaye and Bradley Barcola at Paris Saint-Germain.

Liverpool push on Minteh as bids climb

The Minteh deal is the one moving fastest.

Gambian journalist Foday Manneh reported on Friday that Liverpool have seen a second offer for the Brighton winger knocked back, after an opening bid of £50m was also rejected. Even so, both clubs are described as “hopeful” of finding an agreement and talks are ongoing.

Manneh wrote on X that Brighton had turned down the latest proposal, but that negotiations remain alive. Later, Fabrizio Romano echoed that information and went a step further: Minteh and Liverpool, he said, already have a “broad verbal agreement” on personal terms, with the player giving the green light to the project at Anfield.

According to Romano, Liverpool’s second offer reached £60m, only for Brighton to say no again. The Merseyside club are not walking away. They see Minteh as a key piece in the rebuild of their attack.

Mbaye and Barcola grow restless

The harder Liverpool push for Minteh, the more complicated things become for Mbaye.

In France, L’Equipe – via Get French Football News – report that both Mbaye and his PSG teammate Bradley Barcola feel their transfer sagas have dragged on too long. Both players are on Liverpool’s radar. Both are waiting. Neither is expected to travel with Luis Enrique’s squad for PSG’s Ligue 1 opener against Rennes.

The talks with PSG are moving at different speeds. Discussions over the France international Barcola are described as slow, but at least moving. For Mbaye, the pace is even more glacial.

That delay is starting to bite. With only ten days left in the window, L’Equipe say Mbaye is now prepared to look elsewhere if Liverpool do not accelerate their efforts. What once looked like a clear path to Anfield is no longer guaranteed.

A €20m gap that could cost Liverpool

Money sits at the heart of the stand-off.

RMC Sport, as relayed in the same report, claim Liverpool and PSG remain €20m apart on Mbaye’s valuation. PSG want €70m. Liverpool are holding at €50m. Neither side has blinked yet.

For Liverpool, that stance is understandable. They are already pushing towards £60m for Minteh and have invested in Munoz. Committing another huge fee without movement from PSG would represent a major gamble.

For Mbaye, the picture is different. His future is in limbo while two clubs haggle over numbers. With interest from elsewhere and the window closing fast, his willingness to wait for Liverpool is naturally eroding.

If Liverpool close Minteh and refuse to bridge that €20m gap, Mbaye’s story may end with a different shirt, a different league, and a lingering question: did Liverpool hesitate too long on a winger they truly wanted?
