Liverpool Eyes Spain World Cup Star Ferran Torres as Barcelona Contract Nears End
Liverpool Plans Move for Spain’s World Cup Winner Ferran Torres
Following his decisive goal in Spain's 1-0 victory over Argentina to claim the 2026 World Cup, Ferran Torres has attracted interest from Liverpool. The forward scored the winning strike during extra time after coming off the bench.
Torres' future at Barcelona remains uncertain with under a year left on his contract. Meanwhile, the Catalan club is actively pursuing a new centre-forward, showing strong interest in Julian Alvarez as a potential long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski.
The pursuit of Alvarez complicates Torres' situation. Last season, Torres enjoyed his most productive period at Barcelona, netting 16 league goals in 33 appearances, despite starting only 23 times.
According to L'Equipe, Liverpool sees a chance to bring Torres back to the Premier League. Manager Andoni Iraola reportedly views him as a key addition to bolster an attack weakened by Mohamed Salah's departure and Hugo Ekitike's ongoing Achilles injury, which is expected to sideline him until 2027.
Torres' ability to play across a front three and his contract status make him an attractive option. At 26 years old, he has amassed 65 goals in 201 matches since joining Barcelona from Manchester City in January 2022. Prior to that, during an 18-month spell in England, he scored 18 goals in 43 games for the Cityzens.
Paris Saint-Germain also reportedly admires Torres, with former Barcelona coach Luis Enrique valuing his profile.
