Liverpool Targeting January Moves for Lamine Camara and Tyrick Mitchell

Liverpool are weighing up a January move for Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara, with the deal now described as a “real possibility” and a battle with Chelsea looming on the horizon.

Camara was hours away from becoming a Chelsea player on deadline day. The 22-year-old had held lengthy talks with the London club about his role and future, and had effectively given the green light to a switch to Stamford Bridge before Monaco abruptly pulled the plug late in the window.

Chelsea’s interest has not cooled. It just became more complicated. The package they thought they had in place – around €55m (£47m, $63m) – is no longer on the table. Any club stepping up in January is now expected to be quoted closer to €70m (£60m, $81m).

Liverpool, according to Football Insider, have already moved into position.

“Lamine Camara is a name that has been discussed behind the scenes,” Mick Brown told the outlet, adding that the Anfield hierarchy are monitoring his form in Ligue 1 and sense an opening after the collapsed Chelsea move.

“Liverpool will be keeping an eye on how he gets on for Monaco, but there is definitely a deal to be done as we saw when he nearly joined Chelsea.

“His agent has been very outspoken about trying to get him a move, so I expect Liverpool will have held talks with him about the possibility of signing him in January.”

An aggressive agent, a club ready to sell at the right price and two Premier League heavyweights circling. The ingredients are there for a full-scale winter tug-of-war.

Liverpool eye Mitchell as left-back market tightens

Midfield is not the only area under review. Liverpool are also assessing their options at left-back, a position that could spark another clash with one of their traditional rivals.

Crystal Palace defender Tyrick Mitchell, already linked with Manchester United, is on the radar. In a separate update, Brown suggested Liverpool could emerge as serious contenders for the 25-year-old.

“Man United aren’t going to be the only club interested in signing Mitchell,” he said. “For any club looking for a left-back in the Premier League, there are not many options who come up with such consistent performances as Mitchell has for Crystal Palace.

“He impresses every single week, gets on with his job, he’s terrific defensively and he’s improved the attacking side of his game as well, he’s a top, top player.”

That consistency is exactly what some big clubs are missing. Brown pointed to Liverpool’s current situation, with Milos Kerkez under scrutiny and Kostas Tsimikas heading towards the final months of his contract while still on the fringes.

“So when you look at those top clubs, you’ve got Liverpool where Milos Kerkez has been questioned a bit and maybe isn’t as consistent as they’d like him to be.

“Then you’ve got Chelsea, who are always going to be interested in this type of deal where they can bring a quality player in without having to spend big.

“Either of those clubs could make a move for Mitchell, because as I say, he will tick a number of boxes for them and could be a very good addition.”

Two positions, two potential bidding wars, and a January window edging closer. If Liverpool choose to move on both Camara and Mitchell, the next few months could reshape the spine and the flank of their squad in one hit.
