The league fixture carries more than just three points. Real Madrid’s slip at the Villamarín has opened a door. Barcelona can move three points clear of their rivals for the first time this season if they win at Mestalla.

That result would guarantee Flick’s team end the fourth round as outright leaders. Just as important, it would extend the strong run of form that has marked their start to the campaign.
