Keisuke Honda Makes Impactful Debut in Singapore Premier League

Keisuke Honda’s remarkable football odyssey rolled into yet another country as the Japanese star made his Singapore Premier League bow for FC Jurong – and even with just a brief cameo, he left a mark.

The 40-year-old entered to a roar at Jurong East Stadium, stepping off the bench in the 82nd minute of a 3–0 win over Hougang United, the scoreboard already comfortably in Jurong’s favour but the crowd clearly waiting for one thing. Honda. Number four on his back. Another new chapter.

A late entrance, an instant edge

Honda replaced compatriot Yuma Tsuzurabara on the right side and immediately sharpened Jurong’s press. Five minutes after coming on, he chased down a loose ball and harried Hougang goalkeeper Takahiro Koga into a panicked clearance, drawing a fresh surge of noise from the stands.

He had one more moment in him. Deep into stoppage time, Honda slipped a perfectly weighted through ball into the path of Mizuki Ando, who finished, only for the flag to go up for offside. No assist on the stat sheet, but the vision and timing were unmistakable.

Singapore is the 11th country on Honda’s extraordinary professional journey. It started with Nagoya Grampus in the J1 League, then wound through the Netherlands, Russia, Italy, Mexico, Australia, Brazil, Azerbaijan, Lithuania, and Bhutan.

Between 2018 and 2023, he combined playing duties with a leadership role, serving as general manager of the Cambodia national team while still an active footballer. Earlier this year he turned out for Paro FC in Bhutan, before signing on for FC Jurong’s 2026–27 campaign.

At 40, he is still adding stamps to a passport that already reads like a global football atlas.

Jurong cruise, Honda closes the show

On the night, Honda’s entrance capped a routine win for a Jurong side that looks in early-season rhythm. Takuma Yamaguchi struck first, setting the tone before Haziq Kamarudin doubled the advantage. Substitute Mizuki Ando then added the third to seal back-to-back league victories.

Hougang’s evening unravelled further when Zulqarnaen Suzliman received a straight red card, leaving them to finish with ten men and little hope of a late response.

For Jurong, the result keeps their record perfect. For Honda, it was a quiet but symbolic debut – a handful of touches, a flash of quality, and a reminder that his story is still being written.
