Juventus Fined €10,000 for Disrupting Tribute to Sandro Mazzola

Lega Serie A has handed Juventus a €10,000 fine after sections of their support failed to respect a league-wide minute’s silence for Inter and Italy great Sandro Mazzola at the weekend.

Mazzola, one of the defining figures of Italian football and a symbol of Inter’s glory years, died on Saturday at the age of 83. The league ordered a minute’s silence before every Serie A fixture in his honour once the news broke that morning.

At the Allianz Stadium in Turin, though, the tribute did not unfold as intended before Juventus faced Atalanta. While players from both sides lined up in silence, a group of fans in the Curva Sud turned their backs on the pitch. During the period of remembrance, they began singing chants dedicated to former Juventus icons instead of observing the silence.

Lega Serie A has now formalised its response with the €10,000 sanction, a financial punishment that also serves as a public reprimand. In a weekend that was supposed to unite Italy’s stadiums in a single, quiet tribute to Sandro Mazzola, the noise from one corner of the Allianz has left Juventus answering for more than just events on the pitch.
