Jackson and Delap Likely to Leave Chelsea Before Transfer Deadline

Nicolas Jackson and Liam Delap are both heading towards the Chelsea exit door, with the forward pair described as “likely” to leave before the transfer window closes.

Neither striker made Xabi Alonso’s matchday squad for the 3-1 win over Real Sociedad on Sunday. Their absence only cranked up the noise around their futures. Alonso went with other options, and the message felt clear.

Jackson is back at Chelsea after a season on loan at Bayern Munich, but his return looks set to be brief. Aston Villa are keen, and Chelsea value the Senegal international at around £65m. At that price, any buyer knows they are paying for potential as much as production.

Delap’s situation is even more stark. After a disappointing debut campaign, Chelsea are ready to let him go. Two goals in 41 appearances told its own story, and the club are prepared to sanction his departure.

There is no shortage of interest. Italian side Como have stepped forward, testing the waters for the 23-year-old. Delap, though, would rather stay in the Premier League. Everton, Fulham and Nottingham Forest have all been linked with a move, sensing an opportunity after his £30m switch from Ipswich last summer failed to ignite at Stamford Bridge.

Sky Sports report that both Jackson and Delap are expected to move on before the deadline, with Alonso prepared to lean on Joao Pedro and Danny Welbeck as his central striking options.

If that plan holds, Chelsea’s attacking reshuffle will be ruthless, and quick.
