Inter Milan Targets Cristian Romero as Spurs Prepare for Summer Rebuild

Inter Milan have set their sights on Tottenham captain Cristian Romero, testing the resolve of a club already braced for a turbulent summer rebuild.

Sky in Italy report that the Argentina centre-back sits high on Inter’s list as the Italian champions search for a new defender. The deal would be complicated, heavy on financial detail and negotiation, but the interest is real. Romero, under contract at Spurs until 2029, is not being pushed out of the door, yet there is a growing expectation that Tottenham would listen if a suitably serious offer lands.

Inter are casting the net wide. Romero is one of several names, with John Stones also under consideration after leaving Manchester City on a free. Arsenal and Chelsea like Stones too, which only sharpens the edges of this particular market.

Romero’s situation at Spurs is not straightforward. The 28-year-old missed the end of last season with a knee injury and drew the ire of some supporters when he looked set to watch his boyhood club Belgrano face River Plate in the Argentina Primera Division Apertura final rather than attend Tottenham’s decisive final-day trip to Everton. In the end, he did show up for that game, a match in which Spurs secured their Premier League survival.

Across five seasons in north London, Romero has become a central, sometimes volatile figure: 124 appearances, 12 goals, four red cards in the Premier League. A leader, a risk-taker, a defender who rarely plays within the margins. Exactly the sort of presence Inter believe can anchor a title-winning back line.

Inter eye Spurs again as full-back search continues

The European champions are not stopping at centre-back. They also want a full-back before the window closes and have looked again towards Tottenham.

Djed Spence has been one of the names on their list, a player whose career has stalled since his move to Spurs. That pursuit, though, has cooled. The interest has not vanished, it has just drifted, with Monaco’s Vanderson and Feyenoord’s Givairo Read now pushing their way into the conversation as Inter weigh up their options.

De Zerbi demands firepower for new-look Spurs

While Inter circle his captain, Roberto De Zerbi is busy trying to drag Tottenham into a new era at speed.

The head coach has been clear: Spurs still need two attackers before he considers his squad ready.

The spending has already been aggressive. Tottenham have laid out £237m on six signings, smashing their transfer record with a £100m move for Sandro Tonali from Newcastle. They have backed that up with £85m on Mateus Fernandes and £52m on Jan Paul van Hecke, while Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Martin Dubravka have arrived on free transfers.

De Zerbi wants more. Not just bodies, but quality.

“The target now is to complete the attacking positions,” he said. “We want the first target, the first level, because anyway we are already important players, but I think to start the new project we need another couple of important players, for sure.”

He stressed the work is ongoing. “It’s not finished yet, our transfer market window. We have to finish, we have to bring another couple of, maybe more, maybe not less, but a couple of players.”

A squad being rebuilt at pace, a captain potentially in play, a manager asking for elite forwards: Tottenham’s summer is anything but quiet.

Juventus circle Vicario as keeper dominoes line up

In goal, another pillar of last season’s side could also be on the move.

Juventus are once again considering Guglielmo Vicario as a serious alternative to their top target Emi Martinez, according to Sky in Italy. The Turin club have already started to explore a deal for Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki. There is a gap in valuation, but not one currently viewed as fatal to the move.

Juve plan to revisit Vicario, looking for the best possible terms as they reshape their goalkeeping department.

At Tottenham, Vicario is expected to leave this summer and has not travelled on the club’s pre-season tour, officially because of a “minor injury”. De Zerbi confirmed that line.

“Vicario is injured, not a big injury, but he needs to stay one week in London,” the Spurs boss said.

Whether that week in London turns into a permanent goodbye may depend on how quickly Juventus move.

Bergvall at a crossroads as De Zerbi draws a line

Lucas Bergvall is another name hovering on the edge of the exit door.

The Sweden midfielder wants out, with Sky Sports News reporting he is determined to move on in this window. Nottingham Forest remain in the race and Newcastle have also held talks over potential figures with Spurs.

Inside the club, the message is mixed. Sources insist Tottenham do not want to sell, yet there has been no major attempt to persuade Bergvall to change his mind. De Zerbi’s stance is blunt: he only wants players who actually want to be at Spurs.

Asked about Bergvall’s situation and whether his presence in the pre-season squad hinted at a resolution, De Zerbi kept it calm but firm.

“I have not spoken with Lucas yet. I will in the next days and we will make the best decision for the club, for Lucas, for me, for every one of us. Without problems, Lucas is a big, big talent.

“There will be a big competition to play because at the end, I think we will be two players for each position. If he wants to stay, I will be happy. Otherwise, we have to find a new solution with Johan Lange, with Vinai. It’s not my business after the decision to leave.”

In other words: stay and fight, or go. The door is open either way, but indecision will not be entertained.

Kudus close to return as injury picture clears

Amid the noise of transfers and potential exits, De Zerbi did at least offer one piece of straightforward good news.

Mohammed Kudus, sidelined with a muscle injury since early January, is almost back.

“Kudus is very close,” De Zerbi said. “I think when we come back to London he will be available to start working with us. It’s a great thing for us. Kudus is another important player.”

He also repeated the update on Vicario and addressed the long road back for Dejan Kulusevski.

“Vicario is injured, not a big injury, but he needs to stay one week in London,” he said. “Kulusevski, we have to see in the next couple of weeks. He’s another important player. After one season, one complete season, without a game, we have to analyse better and better, don’t take risks, first of all for him and then for us.”

A captain courted by the European champions, a goalkeeper wanted by Juventus, a young talent pushing to leave, a manager demanding top-level forwards and preaching ruthless clarity.

Tottenham’s summer is already running hot. The only question now is which of these fault lines cracks first.
