Harry Kane Breaks 49-Year Bundesliga Record with 101 Goals

Harry Kane did not just reach 100 Bundesliga goals. He smashed the door down, rewrote a 49-year-old record and kept walking.

In his 98th league game for Bayern Munich, the England captain hit a landmark that had stood since 1977, when Cologne striker Dieter Müller needed 129 matches to get there. Kane has arrived, scored at better than a goal a game, and turned the “if” into a “when” months ago.

He came into the weekend averaging a Bundesliga goal every 78.5 minutes. By full time, Bayern had crushed Union Berlin 7-0, Kane had moved to 101 league goals, and the numbers around him looked even more absurd: 152 goals in 154 Bayern appearances across all competitions, 61 in 51 games last season alone.

Record falls, Bayern cruise

The moment itself was clinical, almost cold. In the 39th minute, Kane stepped up to the spot and hammered in the penalty that took him to 100 Bundesliga goals, sealing the record with the kind of ruthless certainty that has defined his time in Germany.

Any sense of ceremony ended there. Bayern smelled blood.

Early in the second half, Kane drifted into the box, read the flight of a Michael Olise cross and guided a header home. Goal 101. Bayern out of sight. Top of the table before the rest of the weekend had even begun.

Union could not live with the movement around him. With Kane pinning defenders and dragging them into places they did not want to go, the spaces opened up and Bayern’s attacking talent poured through.

Olise hat-trick, Musiala magic – but Kane owns the night

On almost any other day, the story would have belonged to Michael Olise. His first Bayern hat-trick, a statement performance from a player who is rapidly settling into the Allianz Arena spotlight.

Jamal Musiala added a goal that would have graced any occasion, the kind of strike that usually wins games on its own. Here, it was just another flourish in a rout.

Yet the night bent around Kane. The scale of the record, the speed at which he has bulldozed his way to it, and the sense that he is still only just getting started made everything else feel like supporting detail.

“I’m very proud to have now scored 100 and 101 Bundesliga goals. I haven’t been around that long. I’ve loved every second of it,” he told Sky Germany afterwards, the understatement almost as striking as the numbers.

“With Michael, Lucho [Luis Díaz] and Jamal I naturally get chances and today was no exception. So I just want to thank the team, the club, the coach, and the staff – everyone who has helped me achieve this. Let’s keep going like this.”

He did not hide what drives him either.

“Scoring more goals in games is obviously a big step. Of course, there have been many important goals among them. I can only say that I’m enjoying every minute of it. Just like today.”

A record that may not last long

Müller’s mark survived for almost half a century. Kane has torn it down in less than two seasons.

At this rate, the question is no longer how quickly he can climb the Bundesliga scoring charts, but how far he can push them before he is done.
