Guglielmo Vicario Joins Juventus on Long-Term Loan from Tottenham
Juventus have found their new man between the posts. On Tuesday, the club confirmed the arrival of Italian goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario from Tottenham, a deal designed not just for this season but for the long haul.
The 29-year-old joins on loan until 30 June 2027, as announced on Juventus’ official channels. It is an unusually long loan, a clear sign that the Bianconeri see him as a central piece of their next cycle rather than a short-term stopgap.
Agreement includes an option to buy set at around 10 million euros, bonuses included.
This move caps a remarkable rise for a goalkeeper who had to fight his way up the ladder. Born in 1996, Vicario came through the Udinese academy but never walked a straightforward path to the elite. He built his career step by step: Venezia, Perugia, Cagliari, then Empoli, where he amassed 69 Serie A appearances and started turning heads across the league.
Tottenham made their move in 2023. In London, Vicario became a mainstay, racking up 117 matches and, crucially, lifting the Europa League trophy in the 2024/25 season. Those European nights, the pressure, the spotlight – all of it now feeds into a new challenge in Turin.
Juventus, though, did not land their first target. Reports indicated the club initially pursued Argentina’s Emiliano Martinez and Japan international Zion Suzuki before turning decisively to Vicario. The search was broad, the shortlist ambitious. The Italian won the race.
Now he returns to Serie A older, hardened by Premier League battles and European success, walking into a dressing room that expects trophies and a fanbase that demands instant authority from its goalkeeper. The contract says “loan.” The timeline and the context say something else: this is Vicario’s chance to claim the Juventus No. 1 spot for years to come.
