Barcelona Midfielder Gavi Reflects on World Cup Triumph and La Masia Roots

Gavi Opens Up After Spain's 2026 World Cup Victory

Spain’s recent FIFA World Cup win has sparked countless memorable moments, but few have been as touching as the one shared by Barcelona midfielder Gavi. Just hours after Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 in the final, the 21-year-old paused to reflect on his incredible path from a young boy in Los Palacios to a world champion.

A Journey Marked by Dreams and Determination

On social media, Gavi posted two contrasting images: one of him as a child playing for La Liara Balompie, and another capturing the moment he kissed the FIFA World Cup trophy. The message that accompanied these pictures struck a chord with fans worldwide.

“May no one wake me from this dream – the dream of a boy from Los Palacios who dreamed of winning the World Cup with his country…”

The midfielder also spoke about the setbacks he faced, including injuries early in his career. Despite those challenges, he saw every hardship as worth it when celebrating Spain’s global triumph at such a young age.

Gratitude Toward Family, Clubs, and La Masia

Gavi made sure to thank those who shaped him along the way. He acknowledged his roots at Real Betis, where his football journey began, before highlighting the impact of FC Barcelona and its famed academy, La Masia.

“I owe a great deal to everyone at La Masia who welcomed me from day one, and to the coaches and staff at FC Barcelona, who helped me grow as a footballer and as a person, and enabled me to become a world champion,”

He also paid tribute to his grandmother, appreciating the extra strength she gave him during recent months.

Role in Spain’s Tournament Run

Though not a regular starter throughout the tournament, Gavi played 76 minutes in total, including a start against Cape Verde and a late appearance in the knockout match versus Austria. His contributions, whenever called upon by Spain coach Luis de la Fuente, proved valuable in the team's march to glory.
