Gattuso Dismisses Icardi Rumors: Commitment to Current Players

Gennaro Gattuso has moved to kill off the Mauro Icardi rumours, insisting his club will not rip up its plans or its promises on the eve of the new league fixture.

Facing the media at his pre‑match press conference, the coach was asked again about links to the former Inter captain. This time, he cut straight through the noise.

“Let's put this whole Icardi mess to rest,” Gattuso said, via Calciomercato.com. “He has scored 250 goals in his career, and nobody questions his value. We made our choices; we signed [Andrea] Pinamonti and [Albert] Gudmundsson, and when you give your word to players, you can't go back on it.

“With all due respect to Icardi, I've discussed it with the president and the director, and it's right to stick to what we have.”

The message was clear: this is about loyalty and balance, not star-chasing. Gattuso stressed that another forward is not just unnecessary, it would be damaging to a squad he already considers overcrowded in key areas.

“Right now, we already have players who have to sit out training because we have six full-backs,” he pointed out. “When Marusic returns, two of them will have to be left out, and that doesn't look good.”

The numbers tell their own story. Six full-backs, one more on the way back, and a manager who believes one extra attacker could tip the whole structure over the edge. Icardi’s name will linger in the market chatter, but Gattuso has nailed his colours to the mast: the season will be fought with Pinamonti, Gudmundsson and the group he has already backed.
