The numbers behind Mastantuono’s night underline just how big this was. At 19 years and 28 days, he has, according to ESPN, overtaken compatriot Lionel Messi as the youngest Argentine to score a hat-trick in one of Europe’s five major leagues. He did it 231 days younger than Messi was when the Barcelona icon hit his first career treble against Real Madrid back in March 2007.

These were Mastantuono’s first goals for Fiorentina since arriving on a one-season loan from Real Madrid. The treble already matches his entire haul from 35 appearances for the Spanish giants last season.
