In July 2023, Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma and his then-pregnant partner, Alessia Elefante, endured a frightening home invasion. The couple, now married with a child, were attacked by robbers in their luxury apartment on Avenue Montaigne, Paris.

Details from Court Proceedings

During a recent two-day hearing in a Paris court, new details about the violent break-in came to light. Donnarumma was asleep when he was awakened by an intruder whispering "shh". The attacker struck him in the face using a knuckle duster and threatened him with a knife, demanding watches.

Donnarumma told investigators he showed the man an Audemars Piguet watch from his dressing table, a brand known for its high value.

Elefante described her own terrifying experience, recalling how thieves woke her up, demanded money and watches, and forced her to hand over a Cartier watch, jewellery, and about €2,000 in cash.

The intruders pressed Elefante for the safe code. She insisted it was empty, but eventually Donnarumma gave the code, confirming her claim. Police believe four men entered the apartment by climbing onto the roof with a ladder, descending to the balcony, and breaking in through a window.

Suspects and Trial Disruptions

Among the accused are two men already behind bars: Ilyas Kherbouch, 21, who has at least 11 prior convictions and once escaped custody briefly in March, and Khyan Mamouni. Both stand accused of organizing the robbery from prison.

Kherbouch interrupted the trial’s start by verbally abusing and threatening police officers.

Impact on the Couple

Lawyers representing Donnarumma and Elefante have said the incident left the couple deeply shaken. At the time of the attack, Donnarumma was playing for Paris Saint-Germain but is not expected to testify during the court proceedings.
