Djed Spence's Future: Inter Milan Move Gathers Pace

Djed Spence’s future is edging towards Italy, and the noise around him is only getting louder.

“Now he would be a player of interest. If it’d be Liverpool then I’d want big money for him. I would want a lot of money for him. They took the boy Joe Gomez, who was a South London boy, but Spence is a better player than him.”

That bold claim underlines the regard in which the Tottenham full-back is held. But if there is to be a Premier League twist, it does not look like coming from north London.

Arsenal on the sidelines as Inter move looms

Arsenal have not moved for Spence. They have not even hinted at strengthening in the wide defensive areas this summer, and there is nothing to suggest that stance is about to change. Any late swoop from the Emirates would be a major shock.

Instead, all roads point to Milan.

Spence wants the Inter move. The Italian club have already opened direct talks with Tottenham over a permanent transfer, and the deal is gathering pace after a slow, tense start to negotiations.

Earlier in the window, Spurs and Inter stood apart on valuation. The numbers simply did not meet. Now, though, the gap is closing.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter are closing in on an agreement for around €30 million (£25m) plus bonuses. That figure sits below what Tottenham had long been expected to demand for the Englishman, but his desire to join the Nerazzurri is clearly shaping the conversation.

Spurs appear ready to soften their stance, aware that the player’s preference is firmly set on San Siro.

Could anyone else crash the party? Right now, it feels unlikely. For the moment, a transfer anywhere other than Inter looks a distant prospect, and even if the landscape shifts, a move across north London to Arsenal still seems the most improbable of all.
