David Raya Signals Arsenal’s Quest for Champions League Success

David Raya, Arsenal’s goalkeeper, has made it clear that the club aims to build a lasting legacy in football following their first Premier League title in 22 years. The Spanish keeper emphasized the team’s hunger not just for domestic glory but also for success on the European stage.

Arsenal Eyes a New Era of Dominance

Under Mikel Arteta, Arsenal is determined to show that their recent league win isn’t a one-time event but the start of continued success. After ending a two-decade wait to lift the Premier League trophy, the focus now shifts towards conquering Europe’s top competition.

Despite losing last season’s Champions League final to Paris Saint-Germain, that defeat has only strengthened the squad’s determination to secure their first-ever European Cup and defend their domestic crown aggressively.

Raya Shares Arsenal’s Ambitions

“We want to become winners, not just a one-off,” Raya said. “I think we’re going to have to attack the league again, attack the cups, attack the Champions League because we want more.”

The 30-year-old goalkeeper expressed strong belief in the team’s ability, adding, “We want all the trophies, and we are confident that we can beat anybody at any time, so we just have to be focused on ourselves and do better than last season.”

Strengthening the Defence with Major Signings

Arsenal’s recent success saw five players, including Raya, Jurrien Timber, Declan Rice, William Saliba, and Gabriel Magalhaes, earn spots in the PFA Team of the Year. Reflecting on the achievement, Raya said, “The season was incredible, collectively and individually. I think we deserved to be there and be champions, so that was the most important thing.”

To keep up momentum, the club invested heavily in new defenders this summer. Bruno Guimaraes joined from Newcastle in a £75 million deal plus Christos Tzolis, while Ezri Konsa arrived from Aston Villa for £55 million to reinforce the backline.

Raya welcomed these additions, commenting, “Ezri coming, adding to the squad, is going to add a lot of competitiveness inside the team, which is incredible and is really, really good for the whole squad.”

Strong Start to Title Defense

Arsenal began their defense of the title with a convincing 3-0 win over Coventry, securing Raya’s first clean sheet of the new season. Having won the Golden Glove award three times in a row with 19 shutouts last term, Raya is eager to continue his record and join elite company alongside Pepe Reina, Joe Hart, and Ederson.

“It’s not just me. I’ve always said the same, it’s collective stuff. Obviously I’ve been part of it and it’s the third time consecutively, but we cannot stop there. We want to do one more and another one because that means that it’s easier to win games when you keep those clean sheets, so keep them coming and hopefully more Golden Gloves coming our way.”

With important matches ahead in both domestic and European competitions, Arsenal’s ability to integrate key signings like Guimaraes and Konsa quickly will be crucial as they balance their Premier League defense with a renewed push in the Champions League.
