Crystal Palace Signs Young Talent Khalaili for £21m

Crystal Palace have landed one of Europe’s more intriguing young attackers, sealing a deal for Israel international Khalaili from Union Saint-Gilloise for a reported £21m on a contract that runs until 2031.

It is a statement move. Not just because of the fee, but because of the profile.

Still only 21, Khalaili already owns 16 caps for Israel and brings rare versatility. He can operate as an adventurous full-back, hug the touchline as a winger, or attack the box from wider areas. Palace are buying a toolkit, not just a position.

His route to Selhurst Park has been steep and fast. The forward broke through at Maccabi Haifa, scoring 15 goals in 52 appearances and helping the club lift the 2023 Super Cup. That form earned him a switch to Belgium, where his rise accelerated again. At Union Saint-Gilloise he played his part in ending a 90-year wait for a league title in the 2024-25 season, then backed it up by lifting the Belgian Cup last term.

Now comes the Premier League.

"I have followed the Premier League for a long time, it's a new challenge for me," he told the club’s official website after the move was confirmed, sounding more excited than daunted by the jump to English football.

He was just as clear about why he chose this corner of south London. "And Crystal Palace I like, because I have followed them for a long time. They have deserved to win three trophies and I want to do more." The words point to a player who has done his homework on the club’s recent history and wants to push it further.

Behind the scenes, this transfer fits neatly into a broader plan. Palace’s hierarchy are in the middle of an ambitious, carefully targeted rebuild, arming Sage with greater depth and tactical flexibility across the pitch. Khalaili is the fifth arrival of the summer, and arguably the most eye-catching.

He joins a reshaped squad that already includes free-transfer defensive additions Oscar Mingueza and Takehiro Tomiyasu, giving Palace fresh options and composure at the back. Up front, the picture has changed again. Dwight McNeil has arrived in a swap deal that sent Brennan Johnson the other way, adding a different kind of left-sided threat, while Evann Guessand is back for another season-long loan from Aston Villa to strengthen the forward line.

Put together, it looks like a squad being built to play on several fronts and in several shapes. Khalaili, comfortable in multiple roles and already used to pressure at title-chasing clubs, walks straight into that vision.
