Philippe Coutinho Joins Neymar at Santos: A Dream Reunion

Philippe Coutinho is back in Brazil and finally sharing a club dressing room with Neymar, more than a decade after their international partnership first lit up the Seleção.

Santos confirmed on Monday that Coutinho has joined the club on a deal until the end of the season, reuniting the 32-year-old with his former Brazil teammate at Vila Belmiro.

The move delivers a twist few expected. Coutinho and Neymar dazzled together for Brazil, but their club careers kept missing each other. Coutinho’s five-year spell at Liverpool earned him a blockbuster move to Barcelona in January 2018, only for Neymar to have already departed the Camp Nou for Paris St Germain in August 2017. Two of the era’s great Brazilian talents, never once on the same club teamsheet.

Now they meet at Santos, the club that shaped Neymar and is trying to write a new chapter with familiar heroes.

The club marked Coutinho’s arrival with a slick video: the midfielder walking into the Santos dressing room, greeted by Neymar’s embrace. The tone was emotional, almost nostalgic.

"If it's a dream, I don't want to wake up," Neymar told Coutinho in the clip, a line that instantly ricocheted around Brazilian media.

For Coutinho, it is another return to his roots. The playmaker went back to his first club, Vasco da Gama, in 2024, but his stint there ended in February this year. His last appearance for Brazil came in March 2022, a reminder of how far he has drifted from the European spotlight he once commanded.

Neymar, now 34, came back to Santos last year and has already drawn a line under his international career, announcing his Brazil retirement after the World Cup exit in July.

Now the two of them finally share the same club badge. For Santos, it is more than a reunion video. It is a gamble that the old magic between Neymar and Coutinho still has one more act to play.
