Championship Manager of the Month Nominees: August

The Championship has its first managerial shortlist of the season – and it reads like a roll call of fast starters.

Charlton Athletic’s Nathan Jones, Swansea City’s Vitor Matos, Wolves boss Cesar Peixoto and QPR head coach Julien Stephan have all been nominated for August’s Manager of the Month award.

Nathan Jones - Charlton Athletic

Jones has set the early standard. Charlton opened the campaign with three wins from three, a perfect return that sent them straight to the top of the table and underlined their intent in the opening weeks.

Vitor Matos - Swansea City

At Swansea, Matos has wasted no time stamping his mark. His side came through August unbeaten, collecting seven points from their first three matches, with eye-catching victories over Stoke City and Derby County shaping a smooth start to his tenure.

Cesar Peixoto - Wolves

Peixoto has matched that haul at Wolves. In his first season in charge, he has taken seven points from the opening three games as the club pushes hard for an immediate return to the Premier League. The early signs suggest a team that has quickly bought into his ideas.

Julien Stephan - QPR

QPR complete the quartet. Under Stephan, Rangers also navigated August without defeat, stringing together an encouraging run that included impressive away wins at Portsmouth and Blackburn Rovers, results that hinted at a renewed steel on the road.

Only one of them will walk away with the season’s first accolade. The winner of the August Championship Manager of the Month award will be announced on Friday, 11 September.
