Brian Sorensen Joins Republic of Ireland Women's Team

Brian Sorensen is set for a swift return to the international stage, with the former Everton manager poised to join the Republic of Ireland women’s set-up for their crucial Women’s World Cup play-off qualifiers later this year.

The Dane is expected to be appointed assistant coach, forming part of a refreshed backroom team alongside Liverpool coach Amber Whiteley. The pair will link up with manager Carla Ward as Ireland chase a place at the finals.

Sorensen will combine the role with his current position as technical director of Aston Villa Women. He is understood to remain in that job on a full-time basis, stepping into the Ireland camp during international windows.

Ward and Sorensen know each other’s work well. They went head-to-head in the Women’s Super League when Ward was in charge of Villa and Sorensen led Everton, and now move onto the same touchline in green.

Play-Off Campaign

Ireland open their play-off campaign against Kazakhstan in a two-legged first-round tie, with the games scheduled for 9 and 13 October. The margins will be tight. The stakes could not be clearer.
