Brian Sorensen Joins Republic of Ireland Women's Team as Assistant Coach

Brian Sorensen is set for a swift return to the international stage, with the former Everton manager poised to join the Republic of Ireland women’s set-up for their World Cup play-off campaign later this year.

The Dane will step in as assistant coach, forming part of a refreshed backroom team that also includes Liverpool coach Amber Whiteley. It marks a notable move for Ireland as they gear up for a high-stakes run at qualification.

Sorensen will combine the role with his current position as technical director of Aston Villa Women. He is expected to link up with the Republic of Ireland squad during international windows, adding another layer to an already busy schedule.

There is a familiar face at the heart of the project. Sorensen will again work alongside Carla Ward, now in charge of the Republic of Ireland, having previously gone head-to-head with her when she managed Aston Villa in the Women’s Super League and he was in the Everton dugout.

World Cup Play-off Qualifiers

Ireland’s route to the World Cup resumes against Kazakhstan in the first round of the play-off qualifiers. The tie will be played over two legs, scheduled for 9 and 13 October.
