Barcelona to Relocate During Camp Nou Roof Installation

Barcelona will have to move back to the Montjuic Olympic Stadium for a while next season. This comes after club members approved a new financing plan worth €510 million to fund the installation of a roof over Camp Nou. The project delays mean the team won’t return permanently to their home stadium until January 2028 under updated redevelopment timelines.

Temporary Move Confirmed by Club Officials

The club’s treasurer, Ferran Olive, stated the first team will use the Olympic Stadium during the intense construction period. The plan now pushes the full reopening and regular use of Camp Nou to early 2028, extending the timeline significantly.

Board Approves Staggered Financing Package

The redevelopment, known as Espai Barca, has seen repeated setbacks causing the club’s board to approve this large funding package to keep the project on track. Over the weekend, club members officially ratified the plan to raise more money to cover increased costs due to construction delays.

Cost Breakdown and Loan Details

The total expense for redeveloping Camp Nou has climbed close to €2 billion. The recent €510 million funding is split into two parts:

• €300 million for completing the stadium, including expanded facilities, services, and technology upgrades beyond the original plans.
• €210 million through two issues of Media Notes (€105 million each). The first was issued in July 2026, with the second planned for October or November 2026.

Future Capacity and Major Events

Currently, Camp Nou holds about 62,000 fans, which will rise to 75,000 during the ongoing reopening of the third tier this season. Once the redevelopment finishes, capacity will jump to 95,000 in January 2028 and eventually reach 105,000 for the 2028-29 season. The upgraded stadium will soon host major matches, having been chosen by UEFA for the 2029 Champions League final.
