Barcelona Set to Sell Ferran Torres for €55 Million

Barcelona are poised to cash in on Ferran Torres, with Paris Saint-Germain closing on a €55 million deal for the striker that is expected to be wrapped up this week.

If it goes through, it ends a turbulent chapter. Torres arrived from Manchester City in January 2022 and has split opinion at Camp Nou ever since. For four and a half years he has lived somewhere between scapegoat and cult favourite, his every touch dissected, his every dry spell magnified.

The early months were grim. Shuffled across the frontline, he never quite looked settled, his goal return underwhelming and his role unclear. He floated between winger, second striker and wide forward, without ever truly owning any of those positions.

That changed under Hansi Flick. Given a defined job as a full-time striker, Torres finally found rhythm and edge. He hit 40 goals across the last two seasons, turning into a reliable finisher rather than a project player. The “Shark” nickname, once a social-media joke, began to feel earned.

The timing of his potential exit is what stings. Torres scored Spain’s World Cup-winning goal in the summer and, right now, stands as Barcelona’s only senior centre-forward. While the club chases its dream move for Julián Álvarez, there is no guarantee that deal happens, no guarantee the next No. 9 walks through the door on time or on budget.

So Barcelona face a familiar dilemma: take the money now, or back the player who has finally come good in their colours. PSG are betting €55 million that Torres’ recent form is the real version. If Barcelona let him go and fail to land Álvarez, they may discover just how costly that gamble can be.
