Sergej Barbarez Blames Newcastle for Worsening Amar Dedic’s Injury

Bosnia and Herzegovina manager Sergej Barbarez has openly criticized Newcastle United following a serious injury relapse suffered by defender Amar Dedic. The full-back, who had shown promise since joining the Magpies, aggravated an existing hamstring problem during recent Premier League action, which now sidelines him for weeks.

Dedic’s Injury: A Risk That Didn’t Pay Off

Dedic’s fitness troubles first appeared in a Carabao Cup match against Millwall earlier this month. Despite hopes from Newcastle’s medical team that he could continue playing, the decision to field him in a league game versus Leeds United backfired. Dedic lasted only 58 minutes before having to leave the pitch, worsening his condition.

Barbarez believes this mismanagement cost the player a spot in the national squad for the current international fixtures. The coach highlighted the severity of the injury sustained against Leeds, saying it was worse than the initial strain from the Millwall match.

"I want to explain the technical side of Amar Dedic’s injury. He worsened it against Leeds, and the damage is greater now. If he had rested that game, he would certainly be with us now. But these things happen. He will be out for three to four weeks and won’t be ready for these next four matches," Barbarez said.

More Injuries Shake Bosnia’s Lineup

Dedic isn’t the only key player missing. Barbarez confirmed that Kenan Busuladzic faces a tough recovery after tearing his cruciate ligaments, sidelining him for approximately nine months.

"We also miss Kenan Busuladzic. His knee injury means he’ll be out for nine months," Barbarez shared grimly.

To fill gaps caused by these long-term absences, Barbarez has introduced fresh faces into the squad. Four players received call-ups: Benjamin Tahirovic, Ajdin Hasic, Arjan Malic, and Luka Duric. Duric’s inclusion stands out as he’s been making strides in Germany’s second division with Paderborn.

"We invited Benjamin Tahirovic, Ajdin Hasic, Arjan Malic, and Luka Duric from Paderborn. Luka is progressing well, playing in the Bundesliga. Though the season started slowly, we want to see him perform so he can be part of the team," Barbarez explained.

Positive Update on Juventus Prospect

Despite the setbacks, there’s good news regarding Juventus youngster Kerim Alajbegovic. Concerns arose after he left a recent Juventus-Atalanta game at halftime with a hip complaint. Following consultations with Turin’s medical staff, Barbarez confirmed the injury is minor.

"We spoke with Alajbegovic last night. He experienced some hip pain, but Juventus doctors checked him and he’s on his way to Sarajevo. He might rest a day or two, but it shouldn’t be serious," the coach noted.
