Aston Villa Sign Mbaye from PSG for €55m

Aston Villa have pulled off one of the boldest moves of the window, striking a €55m agreement with Paris Saint-Germain to sign teenage winger Mbaye in a deal that underlines the club’s new ambition.

Villa matched the French champions’ valuation and are now working through the final paperwork, with the transfer being tied up after a decisive push from the Midlands club. The move leans heavily on the strong relationship between Villa chairman Nassef Sawiris and PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, a line of communication that helped break open negotiations and close them quickly.

Liverpool and other elite clubs had circled this summer. Villa simply moved faster. And harder. Unai Emery made it clear Mbaye fit straight into his tactical blueprint, and the club acted like a side that expects to live in the Champions League conversation, not just chase it.

From Versailles to Paris – and now Birmingham

Mbaye’s rise has been rapid. He joined PSG from FC Versailles 78 in the summer of 2018 and raced through the youth ranks, forcing his way into the first team as a 16-year-old. His senior debut came in August 2024, a clear signal of how highly he was rated inside the club.

By the time Villa came calling, he had already stacked up 42 senior appearances for PSG, with four goals and four assists. Last season he featured 31 times in all competitions, scoring three and setting up two. Those numbers only tell part of the story: during his spell in Paris he became the youngest player ever to start a competitive game for PSG, trusted in 10 Ligue 1 line-ups and even handed a Champions League start.

That early exposure to high-pressure European nights is exactly what Villa are buying. Not just potential. Proof.

A rising force with Senegal

On the international stage, Mbaye has already made a major decision and a major impact. After representing France at youth level, he switched allegiance to Senegal and debuted for the African champions in November 2025.

He has since collected 15 caps, playing a central role in Senegal’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations triumph. The winger featured in six matches at that tournament, then carried that form into the global spotlight at the 2026 World Cup, where he started three games and scored against France on 16 June. For a teenager, that is heavyweight experience.

Villa’s new-look attack takes shape

This is not a quiet summer at Villa Park. Far from it. Mbaye becomes part of a sweeping rebuild, with the club already making eight signings in this window and Nicolas Jackson expected to be the ninth arrival.

The churn at the top end of the pitch has been dramatic. Morgan Rogers has left for Chelsea in a £117m deal, while Ollie Watkins has departed for Al Hilal. Big goals out the door. Big expectations on those coming in.

Emery now has a fearless, international winger who has already handled the demands of PSG, AFCON and a World Cup. For a club pushing to cement itself among the Premier League’s elite, the question isn’t whether Mbaye is ready for Aston Villa.
