Arsenal Targets Brighton’s Jack Hinshelwood as Key Signing

Arsenal are pushing to the front of the queue for Brighton’s rising star Jack Hinshelwood, with the Premier League champions said to be ahead of Manchester United and Manchester City in the race for his signature.

The 21-year-old, a product of Brighton’s academy and son of former Seagulls defender Adam Hinshelwood, is understood to be valued at between £43m and £51m. Brighton would rather keep him, but that kind of offer is believed to be enough to drag them to the negotiating table.

Arsenal’s next piece of the puzzle?

Fresh from ending a 22-year wait for the Premier League title, Arsenal have not eased off. Mikel Arteta has already added Bruno Guimaraes, Christos Tzolis, Piero Hincapie and Illan Meslier, yet the champions are still hunting for more.

The plan this summer has been clear: strengthen at centre-back, add another winger, and, if the right opportunity appears, bring in a striker. Now a new angle has emerged. According to The Sun, Arsenal have placed Hinshelwood near the top of their list and view him as a “top priority” signing.

Arteta is said to see the Brighton midfielder as a “perfect addition” to his evolving squad. That belief is rooted in Hinshelwood’s versatility. Naturally a defensive midfielder, he has also operated higher up the pitch and still produced. Four goals and four assists in the Premier League last season underline his ability to influence games in the final third as well as protect the back line.

For a coach who prizes tactical flexibility and multi-functional players, Hinshelwood ticks a lot of boxes.

Brighton’s stance and the price of potential

Brighton rarely sell on the cheap, and this situation is no different. Hinshelwood has three years left on his current deal, giving the south-coast club a strong hand.

Reports suggest a bid in the region of £43m to £51m could force serious talks, even though the Seagulls would prefer to keep another of their academy graduates. With Manchester United and Manchester City also monitoring the situation, Arsenal’s willingness to move decisively could prove crucial.

The champions, though, are not building their summer solely around one young midfielder.

Centre-back search: Konsa leads, others ruled out

At the back, Arsenal’s main focus remains a new central defender. Aston Villa’s Ezri Konsa is widely regarded as their leading option. A report on Friday went as far as to claim the deal was “99% done”.

That, however, has been cooled. Transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel on Saturday morning, stressed that Konsa “remains on Arsenal’s shortlist” and is “very appreciated” inside the club, but stopped well short of confirming any agreement.

As Arsenal weigh up their options, two names can be crossed off. Romano has made it clear that moves for Atletico Madrid’s Marc Pubill and Bayer Leverkusen’s Jarell Quansah are off the table.

On Pubill, Romano said: “The player is not for sale. Atletico Madrid have no intention to sell.”

Leverkusen’s stance on Quansah is just as firm. “Arsenal made official contact with Bayer Leverkusen… The answer from Leverkusen is that they don’t want to sell the player. So they rejected the approach,” Romano explained.

So Arsenal push on. A title to defend, a squad still being sharpened, and a 21-year-old from Brighton suddenly sitting near the heart of their plans. If they decide Hinshelwood is worth the fee, how many others can really keep pace?
