Arsenal Secure Transfer of Phoenix Blayney from Larne

Arsenal have won one of the quieter but more telling transfer battles of the summer, securing highly rated Larne teenager Phoenix Blayney ahead of rival offers from Liverpool and Nottingham Forest.

The 15-year-old impressed during a trial with the Gunners, convincing academy staff that he was worth moving quickly for. That urgency has paid off. Despite concrete interest from two other Premier League clubs – and a visit to Liverpool’s training facilities that even saw him pictured in full Anfield kit – Blayney is heading to north London.

His father, Alan Blayney, confirmed that Arsenal have come out on top.

“Everything has been agreed with Arsenal, he just needs to sign the contract,” he told the Belfast Telegraph. “It’s done and dusted and a pre-contract will be signed when the time is right.”

The plan is clear. Blayney will link up with Arsenal this summer on a pre-contract agreement, before signing professional terms when he turns 17 in November 2027. It is a long runway, but a familiar one at London Colney.

Arsenal have already used this route with Marli Salmon and Max Dowman, both of whom signed pre-contracts this season and will move onto professional deals on their 17th birthdays. Blayney now joins that carefully selected group, another marker of how deliberately the club are building out the next generation.

If the offers on the table were strong, one stood out. According to his father, Arsenal were the “shining light between them all” when Premier League options were weighed up.

“Phoenix enjoyed being at Arsenal, he felt a connection there and really likes the coaches,” Alan Blayney added.

There is also a personal pull. One of his close friends, Daniel McCarron, has already joined Arsenal, and that relationship helped tilt the decision. “One of his good friends Daniel McCarron has joined the club and that’s probably one of the reasons too. Him and Daniel play in the same Northern Ireland team.”

For Arsenal, this is another step in an increasingly aggressive push to secure standout talent at academy level. For Blayney, it is the start of a long road: from Larne prospect to Premier League hopeful, with the pathway mapped out and the door at London Colney now open.
