Arsenal Ready to Spend Over £125m for Julian Alvarez Amid Transfer Race
Arsenal Set to Challenge British Transfer Record for Julian Alvarez
Arsenal are reportedly willing to shatter the British transfer record to secure Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez this summer. Interest in the Argentine striker has been intense, with the La Liga champions Barcelona also keen on his signature.
The Gunners aim to strengthen their attack following a setback after missing out on Morgan Rogers, who moved to Chelsea. Another target is Bradley Barcola, though competition from Liverpool and the possibility of Paris Saint-Germain retaining the French winger complicate that pursuit.
Negotiations and Contact With Representatives
According to Teamtalk, Arsenal plan to act once they sense Alvarez's willingness to return to the Premier League. Andrea Berta, Arsenal’s sporting director, is said to be in steady contact with Alvarez’s camp as talks progress toward a major deal.
Since joining Atletico in 2024, Alvarez has tallied 49 goals and 17 assists. His contract runs until 2030, meaning a substantial bid would be necessary to lure him away. Still, Arsenal believe a move for Alvarez won’t halt other transfer plans they have underway.
Record-Breaking Fee and Potential Player Swap
Liverpool’s £125 million acquisition of Alexander Isak currently holds the British transfer record. Arsenal, however, seem prepared to go beyond that figure to bring Alvarez to the Emirates.
There are reports that Arsenal might include Viktor Gyokeres plus cash in their offer, but Atletico reportedly prefer either Gabriel Jesus or Gabriel Martinelli as part of any deal. Atletico would rather sell Alvarez abroad than to domestic rival Barcelona, which could work in Arsenal’s favor if Alvarez chooses England again.
Alvarez’s Preferences and Arsenal’s Position
Alvarez is thought to lean towards a move to Barcelona, with negotiations ongoing. Despite that, Arsenal feel confident they can agree on personal terms and meet Atletico’s price. The main challenge may be persuading Alvarez to return to English football.
If he opens the door, Arsenal might soon secure one of the summer’s most high-profile transfers.
