Arsenal Nears £10m Deal for Leicester Prodigy Monga
Arsenal are on the verge of landing one of the most coveted teenagers in the country, with a deal for Leicester City winger Monga now edging towards completion after weeks of hard bargaining.
The two clubs have been locked in protracted negotiations over a fee for the 16-year-old, with the stand-off serious enough at one stage to raise the prospect of a tribunal. The deadlock has eased. Arsenal are now expected to finalise an agreement worth in excess of £10million to take the highly rated wide forward to north London.
The transfer is not yet signed off, but the structure of the deal is understood to be in place and both sides are working towards wrapping it up.
There has never been an issue over the player’s side of the move. Personal terms have long been settled, and Monga will be able to put pen to paper on his first professional contract when he turns 17 on July 10.
If the deal goes through as anticipated, the teenager is set to report for pre-season with Arsenal and step straight into Mikel Arteta’s eyeline. The Spaniard and his staff will run the rule over Monga this summer before deciding the next step in his development: stay and learn in-house, or head out on loan for regular senior football.
That decision will hinge on the shape of Arsenal’s attacking options. The club are pushing to add a marquee forward such as Morgan Rogers, and any big-name arrival would naturally squeeze first-team opportunities for a 16-year-old still at the start of his journey. A loan move is firmly on the table if minutes at the Emirates look scarce.
For Arsenal, Monga fits a clear strategy. They have been aggressively targeting the brightest young talents across England and Europe, building a pipeline beneath the first team. In that context, investing heavily in a teenager who has already sampled Premier League and Championship football aligns perfectly with their long-term planning.
For Leicester, the story is very different. Relegation to League One has forced uncomfortable decisions, and the club have had to reluctantly accept that selling Monga this summer will help ease their financial position. Losing a homegrown jewel at 16 is a painful consequence of their drop.
Monga’s rise has been startlingly quick. He made his Premier League debut for the Foxes under Ruud van Nistelrooy in April 2025 at just 15 years and 271 days. That appearance put him third on the all-time list of youngest players to feature in the competition, behind only Arsenal pair Ethan Nwaneri and Max Dowman – a quirk of history that now looks set to be followed by a permanent move to the Emirates.
Last season he stepped up in the Championship, making 27 appearances for Leicester. He came off the bench against Preston in August to score his first senior goal, becoming the club’s youngest-ever scorer in the process. It was the sort of moment that makes recruitment departments sit up and take notice.
Now Arsenal are moving to turn potential into possession. If they close this deal, they will not just be signing a prospect; they will be taking a statement swing at the future of their forward line.
