Alyssa Thompson Named Player of the Match in Chelsea's 3-0 Victory
Alyssa Thompson has been voted Player of the Match after a relentless display in Chelsea’s 3-0 win in Sydney, capping the club’s pre-season tour of New Zealand and Australia with a flourish.
The USA international was involved in both of Chelsea’s opening goals, driving the tempo in attack as Sandy Baltimore and Sjoeke Nusken found the net. Thompson’s direct running and constant movement stretched the opposition throughout, turning the final tour fixture into a showcase of her attacking range.
Thompson edged a fiercely contested poll with 29 per cent of the vote. Baltimore, whose finish opened the scoring, pushed her close on 27 per cent, while Lexi Potter – scorer of the third goal – claimed 23 per cent after rounding off the victory.
A dominant performance, a tight vote, and a clear message heading into the new campaign: Alyssa Thompson is already in gear.
