Alisson Becker Fined £8,000 for Misconduct After Nottingham Forest Draw

Alisson Becker has been fined £8,000 by the FA after accepting a misconduct charge for his actions following Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest last month.

The Liverpool goalkeeper lost his composure at the City Ground after a chaotic finale that saw him penalised for a foul on former team-mate Neco Williams. Referee Sam Barrott pointed to the spot, Morgan Gibbs-White buried the penalty, and Forest seized the lead in a game already thick with frustration from the visitors.

Liverpool eventually clawed back a point thanks to a late equaliser from Victor Munoz, but the mood around the away camp remained sour. As Alisson left the pitch at full-time, he was seen kicking the fourth official’s electronic board in anger. That same board had already been at the centre of irritation for Liverpool, malfunctioning and delaying three substitutions in the moments leading up to the Forest penalty.

The FA has now confirmed the 31-year-old has accepted responsibility for his conduct.

An official statement read: “Liverpool’s Alisson Becker has been fined £8,000 for misconduct at the Premier League fixture against Nottingham Forest on 29 August.

“It was alleged that the goalkeeper acted in an improper manner around the tunnel area after the final whistle.

“Alisson Becker has subsequently accepted the charge against him and received the standard penalty.”

The sting deepened this week.

The Premier League’s Key Match Incidents (KMI) Panel ruled that the penalty awarded against Alisson should not have been given. Of the five-man panel, three members judged that his challenge on Williams did not meet the threshold for a foul.

Their written verdict underlined that view: “The contact from Alisson was inevitable as a consequence of his momentum in attempting to save the ball. The contact made was not reckless and below the threshold for a penalty.”

Yet the same panel backed the VAR process on the day. With Michael Oliver on VAR duty, Barrott was not sent to the pitchside monitor for a second look. The KMI panel unanimously agreed that the non-intervention was correct under current protocols, ruling the decision was not a “clear and obvious error” and therefore did not justify a VAR review.

So Alisson leaves the episode with an £8,000 fine, a black mark on his disciplinary record, and the knowledge that the spot-kick which sparked his fury has since been deemed the wrong call — just not wrong enough to change.
