2026 World Cup Round of 32: Updated Schedule and Results

2026 World Cup Round of 32 Overview

The group stage has wrapped up with 16 teams eliminated, leaving 32 nations still chasing the World Cup trophy. For these teams, the knockout round offers a chance to move closer to glory. Some squads are stacked with talent, others less so, but all face the pressure of single-elimination matches where only winners advance.

This stage demands focus, as every match might be the last. The coming days will reveal which teams can handle the intensity and who will falter under the spotlight. Below is the full Round of 32 bracket along with the updated schedule and recent results.

How the Round of 32 Bracket Is Structured

The bracket divides into two halves, each producing one finalist. One side includes teams such as Germany, Paraguay, France, Sweden, South Africa, Canada, Netherlands, Morocco, Portugal, Croatia, Spain, Algeria, USA, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Belgium, and Senegal.

The opposite half features Mexico, Switzerland, Brazil, Colombia, Ghana, Australia, Egypt, Cape Verde, Argentina, Ecuador, Ivory Coast, Japan, Norway, England, DR Congo, Austria, and Switzerland again.

Teams That Made It to the Round of 32

Mexico was the first to secure their spot in the knockout stage on June 18. The United States and Argentina also qualified early, each clinching advancement after just two group games. The remaining 29 teams booked their places by June 27, with Algeria and Austria rounding out the final qualifiers.

Knockout Stage Format

Starting now, every match is win or go home. If a game ends tied after 90 minutes, it moves into a 30-minute extra time period. Should the score still be level, the winner is decided by penalties. Each side selects five players for penalty kicks, and whoever scores more advances.

The Round of 32 matches were set based on group stage outcomes. Group winners face runners-up or top third-place finishers from other groups according to a prearranged bracket.

Advancement Path Through the Tournament

The 48 teams began in 14 groups of four during the group phase. Each team played three matches, earning three points for a win, one for a draw, and none for a loss. Ties in points were broken by goal difference and goals scored.

Top two teams from each group plus the eight best third-place teams moved to this knockout round. From here, winners keep advancing through the Round of 16, quarterfinals, semifinals, and finally the championship match.
