2026 FIFA World Cup Group B: Teams, Schedule, Standings, and Knockout Path
Overview of Group B at the 2026 FIFA World Cup
The 2026 World Cup, set to be hosted across North America, will be the largest tournament in history. Canada plays a central role as both a competitor and host, with matches scheduled in Toronto and Vancouver. This group features Canada alongside Switzerland, Qatar, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Each team will play at least one match on Canadian soil, but some games will also take place along the US West Coast.
This edition expands the field to 48 teams, with 32 advancing to the knockout rounds. Canada's squad aims to make a mark after their disappointing 2022 campaign where they earned no points or goals.
Group Stage Tie-Breaking Rules
If teams finish level on points, standings are decided first by head-to-head results, then goal difference and goals scored in those matches. Should a tie persist, overall goal difference and goals scored are considered, followed by a "team conduct score" based on disciplinary records. If needed, FIFA rankings determine the higher position.
Third-Place Qualification in 2026
The tournament allows the best eight third-place finishers among the groups to advance to the Round of 32. These teams will be ranked based on points, goal difference, goals scored, conduct scores, and FIFA rankings.
Profiles of Group B Teams
Canada
Preparing for only their third World Cup appearance, Canada enters with its most talented roster ever. Coach Jesse Marsch, who took over in May 2024, aims to lead them into the knockout rounds for the first time. Key players include Jonathan David from Juventus, Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies, and Porto’s Stephen Eustaquio. Davies' recovery from an ACL injury will be crucial.

Veterans like Granit Xhaka, Manuel Akanji, and Ricardo Rodriguez provide experience. Despite a heavy defeat to Portugal in 2018, their recent form includes consecutive European Championship quarterfinal appearances and an unbeaten streak lasting over a year.

Knockout Stage Path for Group B Teams
The top two teams from Group B will advance directly to the Round of 32. The third-place team may also advance if they rank among the eight best third-place finishers across all groups.
The group winner faces a third-place finisher from Groups E, F, G, I, or J on July 2 in Vancouver. Second place meets Group A's runner-up on June 28 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. If third place progresses, their opponent will be either the winner of Group E or Group D.
Subsequent rounds follow, with quarterfinals, semifinals, third-place match, and final held across multiple venues in North America from July 4 through July 19.
