Xabi Alonso Confirms Enzo Fernandez's Commitment to Chelsea

Xabi Alonso insists Enzo Fernandez is locked in on Chelsea’s season, even as Manchester City circle and the midfielder’s future remains a live topic behind the scenes.

Chelsea had agreed with Fernandez’s agent Javier Pastore back in late May that the Argentina international could leave if a club met a £120m valuation, with a hard deadline of 14 August for any bids. That date has come and gone without a formal offer landing at Stamford Bridge.

The response from Chelsea since has been firm: Fernandez is not for sale in this window.

City, coached by his former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca, remain keen and are convinced the London club would still entertain a deal at the right price. The noise has not gone away. It has just moved outside the training ground gates.

Inside Cobham, Alonso paints a very different picture.

Asked on Thursday whether Fernandez would still be a Chelsea player when the transfer window shuts on 1 September, the head coach was unequivocal.

“Enzo is a Chelsea player. We are happy with him and he's getting ready for Monday,” he said, with the Premier League opener at Fulham looming.

Alonso stressed that the 25‑year‑old has “integrated really well” since rejoining the squad after the World Cup and highlighted the standards he is setting day to day, saying Fernandez is “training really well”.

“I see him with a really good attitude and that's what we want,” Alonso added.

Chelsea head to Craven Cottage needing clarity and control in midfield. For now, Alonso believes he has both – and Enzo Fernandez is at the heart of it.
