West Ham United Sign Joel Piroe on Loan from Leeds United
West Ham United have moved to bolster their attack with the signing of Joel Piroe from Leeds United on a season-long loan, including an obligation to buy in the summer of 2027.
The 27-year-old arrives with a formidable Championship record. He has 73 goals in England’s second tier across four seasons, first making his name at Swansea City before switching to Leeds, where he finished as the club’s top scorer in the 2024-25 campaign as they clinched the title.
The step up proved harsher. Last season in the Premier League, Piroe failed to score in 16 appearances for Leeds, a barren run that ultimately opened the door for his departure.
Now he gets a reset in claret and blue.
"I think it's a good opportunity for me to show what I've learned and how I've grown as a football player over the years," Piroe told West Ham’s website, underlining a move that feels as much about redemption as it does about recruitment.
Born in the Netherlands but now capped by Suriname, Piroe came through at PSV Eindhoven and had a loan spell at Sparta Rotterdam before crossing to England, where he turned into one of the Championship’s most reliable finishers.
West Ham have kept the finer details under wraps. The club have not disclosed the agreed fee for the 2027 permanent move, nor the length of the contract that will follow.
His arrival continues a busy summer in east London. Piroe becomes the Hammers’ fifth permanent signing of the window, joining Venezuela midfielder Keiber Lamadrid, Dutch defender Joel Veltman, Israel winger Manor Solomon and Belgium midfielder Arne Engels.
A proven goalscorer outside the top flight, a point to prove inside it, and a club looking for extra firepower: West Ham know exactly what they’re betting on. Now it’s down to Piroe to show that his Championship numbers can finally translate to the Premier League.
