Tottenham's Summer Transfer Plans: Savinho, Marmoush, and Gakpo

Tottenham are already ripping up the script of a normal summer window. And they might not be done yet.

An £85m agreement with Manchester City for Savinho has set the tone, a deal that underlines just how aggressively the club intend to reshape their attack. At the same time, Spurs have moved deep into talks for Omar Marmoush, the Eintracht Frankfurt forward emerging as the central striker in a three-part attacking rebuild.

Marmoush has agreed personal terms on a five-year contract and is described as very keen to work under Roberto De Zerbi. The two clubs are said to be “very close” to an agreement, with the move expected to be wrapped up in the coming days. If and when that happens, Tottenham’s outlay this summer will surge towards the £400m mark.

And yet, the suggestion from inside the industry is that this might still only be the prelude.

May yet go bigger

According to The Independent’s chief football writer Miguel Delaney, Tottenham “may yet go bigger than Savinho and Omar Marmoush”, a line that has sharpened intrigue around the club’s next move.

The obvious name is Cody Gakpo. Fabrizio Romano has repeatedly outlined Spurs’ plan for the window: two wingers and a central striker, with Savinho and Gakpo the wide options and Marmoush the man through the middle. One part is already complete. The second looks close. The third remains in play.

Gakpo has been heavily linked with Tottenham all summer, even if Marmoush has dominated the headlines in the last few days. Romano insists the Dutchman’s situation is still alive.

“It’s not over at all, the summer transfer window for Tottenham. I always told you Savinho, Gakpo, and a central striker. Savinho is done. Gakpo: we will talk in the next few days,” he said.

If the deal for Gakpo cannot be unlocked, Delaney’s hint raises another possibility: an attacking target who has stayed completely off the radar so far.

With the window entering its final week, the cloak-and-dagger phase will not last much longer. Spurs’ hand will soon be visible.

The Gakpo puzzle

Several pieces still need to fall into place before Gakpo can realistically walk through the door at Hotspur Way.

Personal terms are not the issue. Gakpo has already agreed those with Tottenham and is believed to be very keen on the move. The obstacle is Liverpool. The forward remains part of their plans, and the club have proved extremely tough negotiators.

His strong pre-season has only hardened that stance. Internally, there is a belief that new manager Andoni Iraola can extract even more from the 25-year-old, making Liverpool even less inclined to entertain offers.

Tottenham, for their part, have not yet submitted a formal bid. That could change quickly if Liverpool advance their own attacking business. Interest in Paris Saint-Germain duo Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye is being closely watched in north London.

Should either of those players arrive at Anfield, competition in Gakpo’s areas of the pitch would spike. At that point, Liverpool might be more open to a sale that currently looks difficult.

For now, Spurs stand on the brink of completing Savinho and Marmoush, with the prospect of something even bigger still hovering over the final days of the window. If they land that final punch, what does this Tottenham attack look like by the time the season truly bites?
